The University of Nottingham is a pioneering university providing an exceptional, research-led education and an outstanding student experience for its 40,000 students. Built on the ethos that education can unlock potential and transform lives, we are committed to excellence in teaching and learning.

Founded in 1948, with a history stretching back to 1881, we have 140 years of heritage and success to be proud of, and to build on. Nottingham is a member of the UK’s prestigious Russell Group and the Universitas 21 global network. We are ranked =100th in the world (17 in the UK) out of more than 1,500 universities in the QS World University Rankings 2024.

The university has a history of world-changing research, from the development of MRI technology to the ongoing fight against modern slavery and world hunger. The University's Manuscripts and Special Collections holds over 700 internationally recognised archive collections from the 12th to 21st centuries. Particular strengths include family and estate collections and personal and political papers; literary archives including DH Lawrence; business archives especially lace and textiles; health archives including the development of MRI; and ecclesiastical archives.

The city of Nottingham is world-famous for the legends of Robin Hood and is a UNESCO City of Literature.
