Loughborough University

The Fulbright Loughborough University Award covers a 3-12 month project for researching, lecturing or teaching in or across any research-active departments at the university.

Throughout its history, Loughborough University has built upon its distinctive characteristics. Today it is one of the UK's leading universities, with a reputation for excellence in teaching and research, strong links with business and industry and unrivalled sporting achievement. We have two vibrant campuses, our 440-acre single-site Loughborough campus, in the heart of the Midlands, and our inspiring postgraduate London campus, based in the former press and broadcast centres at the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Loughborough has been awarded 5* for research as part of the QS Stars University Ratings 2014. For REF 2014, the university was named a top 10 university in England for research intensity.

We warmly welcome applications for the Fulbright Loughborough University Award and have previously successfully hosted Fulbright Scholars. All Loughborough University Fulbright Scholars will become Fellows of our Institute of Advanced Studies, ensuring that they will have maximum visibility and be fully integrated into our vibrant research communities across our campuses.

Our strategic research framework comprises eight institution-wide programmes built on a foundation of research excellence across our individual disciplines. We are particularly keen to attract scholars working within one of our five research ‘Beacons’ or four interdisciplinary Global Research Challenge areas.

The Beacon Programme identifies the University’s “classic” research strengths. The Beacon areas are enduring and demonstrably world-class across a broad range of coherent topics:

  1. Built environment
  2. Communication and culture
  3. High value manufacturing
  4. Sport and exercise
  5. Transport technologies

The Global Challenges Programme brings expertise together across disciplines to create multi-disciplinary solutions to the biggest societal challenges of the day:

  1. Changing Environments and Infrastructure
  2. Energy
  3. Health and Wellbeing
  4. Secure and Resilient Societies
