William Dinh

Fulbright University of St Andrews Summer Institute

William Dinh is a student at Bowdoin College studying economics and history, with a focus on how identity, access, and opportunity are shaped across communities. Originally from Houston, Texas, he is a first-generation college student from a Vietnamese immigrant family, experiences that have deeply shaped his intellectual curiosity and commitment to equity. He is passionate about how economic systems and historical narratives intersect, particularly in communities whose contributions are often overlooked.

At Bowdoin, William works in the Student Aid Office to help students and families navigate financial aid, and mentors prospective QuestBridge applicants through the scholarship process. Outside of academics, he stays active through a wide range of sports and outdoor activities, and is drawn to community-building and creating spaces where others feel encouraged to explore new experiences.

Through the Fulbright UK Summer Institute at the University of St Andrews, William hopes to explore how Scottish identity has been shaped through history, culture, and place. He looks forward to engaging with history through lived experience and bringing those perspectives home to foster greater cross-cultural understanding.
