Vishnu Alavala

Scotland Summer Institute on Technology, Innovation and Creativity: University of Strathclyde and the Glasgow School of Art

Vishnupriya Alavala was born and raised in South Riding, Virginia and is currently a rising sophomore at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. Vishnu is an aspiring surgeon in the Guaranteed Admission Program for Medicine Class of 2026 and is pursuing a Biology major and Chemistry minor.

Vishnu is passionate about addressing global healthcare inequities by treating diverse patients and implementing accessible technologies in underserved communities. As an avid researcher, Vishnu hopes to discover more about the body’s response to stressors and advance medical technologies. Vishnu hopes to synergistically combine technology, art, humanities, and design alongside individuals at the University of Strathclyde and Glasgow School of Art.

Through her experiences serving in tutoring and community organizations, Vishnu prioritizes strengthening communication across people of different races, income levels, and demographics. Vishnu is excited to apply the skills learned from this Summer Institute to inspire reform in her home communities.

In addition to academic enrichment, Vishnu is excited to develop her cultural competence and engage with a global community of interdisciplinary scholars. Having never visited the UK, Vishnu is excited build relationships while exploring the food, culture, and history of Scotland.
