Stefanie Demetriades
DePaul University - Global Challenges Teaching Award: Misinformation
Stefanie Z. Demetriades is an Assistant Professor in the College of Communication at DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois, where she teaches courses on misinformation and polarization, intercultural communication, health communication, and the relationship between technology and society. Her research examines how people process and respond to challenging or uncomfortable information in health, science, and political contexts, drawing on an interdisciplinary approach that bridges communication, political science, and psychology.
She holds a Master’s degree in Public Diplomacy and a PhD in Communication from the University of Southern California. A scholar of misinformation studies, digital communication, and media effects, Dr. Demetriades is deeply committed to fostering critical thinking, intercultural dialogue, and public engagement.
As a Fulbright Global Challenges Teaching awardee, she will integrate a virtual exchange into her course Misinformation in Times of Upheaval, connecting students across borders to examine how misinformation spreads, how it is understood, and how communities can work together to counter its effects.
Stefanie is joined by her institutional team: Rosita Leon and Bridget Wagner.
