Sherece Turner

Fulbright/Manchester Metropolitan University Award in Creative Writing

Sherece Turner is a proud Baltimore native with an A.B. in English from Brown University. She will pursue an MA in Creative Writing at Manchester Metropolitan University, where she plans to work on a novel loosely inspired by her experiences as a former corrections officer. Her writing explores themes of resilience, identity, and the invisible systems that shape everyday lives.

Sherece’s interests extend beyond the page and include a love of singing, acting, reading, and finding new ways to engage creatively with the world around her. During her Fulbright Award, she looks forward to immersing herself in both the academic and cultural life of the UK. She’s especially excited to visit literary landmarks like the British Library, Bath, and Stratford-upon-Avon, and to participate in the vibrant local arts scene.

Sherece is eager to experience British pub culture for its role as a communal gathering space where people share stories, debate, laugh, and connect. She hopes to join local writing groups, attend storytelling nights, and maybe even take on a pub quiz or two. Through these experiences, she aims to grow as both a writer and a global citizen.
