Sarah Titcombe

Fulbright/Imperial College London Award

Sarah Titcombe graduated from Occidental College with a BA in biochemistry. At Occidental, she researched metal-centered compounds for their application in flow batteries. During an internship with Fulbright Canada-Mitacs Globalink, she developed a passion for internationally collaborative research and an interest in microbiology. Sarah validated this interest by studying proteins essential for anthrax virulence at the National Institutes of Health, and she now aspires to a career combating resistant infectious diseases as a physician scientist.

This Fulbright award will support Sarah to study bacterial pathogenesis and infection as a Biomedical Research MRes student at Imperial College London. She aims to undertake two projects at Imperial’s Centre for Bacterial Resistance Biology that explore different angles of resistance, one researching how resistant pathogens interact with their host and the other researching how antibiotics target them.

In addition to her work in the laboratory, Sarah plans to join Imperial’s Medical Humanities Society and volunteer with Imperial Health Charity. As a former field captain for the rugby team at Occidental, she also hopes to play and watch rugby in London.
