Róise Nic an Bheatha

Fulbright-BAFTA Postgraduate Scholarship - The School of Visual Arts

Róise Nic an Bheatha is an award-winning Celtic language filmmaker based in the Highlands of Scotland. Originally from Derry, Northern Ireland, Róise grew up speaking Irish before moving to Edinburgh where she learned Scottish Gaelic. In 2019, she was awarded a First Class MA Hons in Scottish Literature and Language from the University of Glasgow. Róise has since worked in marketing and PR including serving as Head of Communications for Scotland's National Centre for Gaelic Language and Culture. Róise's award-winning short films have captured international audiences. Her stories use Celtic languages and identity to unpack polarisation, turning cross-cultural friction into fresh perspectives for a more collaborative understanding of the world. Supported by the Fulbright BAFTA scholarship, she is pursuing an MPS in Film Directing at the School of Visual Arts in New York, aiming to bring industry-leading skills home to Scotland to direct a Gaelic-language feature film. Róise looks forward to exploring America's diverse linguistic landscape and its Irish/Scottish diaspora.
