Robert Lang II
Fulbright/Loughborough University PhD Award
Robert Lang, a native Californian, has been a lifelong storyteller. As a second generation immigrant, he learned first-hand the importance of using stories to communicate across cultural divides which would fuel his interest in mental health. After receiving a BSc in Psychology, his experiences and time in the field of mental healthcare informed his decision to return to storytelling as a means to help the communities he worked with.
Since 2022, he attended San Diego State University to receive an MFA in Creative Writing, with an emphasis on using art to combat stigma and generate empathy. With the Fulbright PhD Award, Robert will be going to Loughborough University to research through their School of Design and Creative Arts' 'Storytelling Academy'. He intends to create programs that pairs artists with under-represented, misunderstood populations, such as the neurodivergent, to help them tell their stories and directly combat stigma.
When he's not studying or creating, Robert promotes the arts as a social good and brings artists out to their community. Be it eco-poetry workshops for children, staging plays in the park, or elaborate student art showcases, He strives to be an agent of creative placemaking and can't wait to bring that to Loughborough.
