Robert Greally

Fulbright All Disciplines Scholar Award - New York University (NYU)

Robert completed his PhD in Constitutional Law and Theory at the University of Sheffield in 2020 and was appointed as a Lecturer in Law at the University of Bristol Law School in 2022. Robert is interested in the relationship between law and politics in modern constitutional democracies, focusing particularly on how legislatures and political parties understand, interact with, and shape constitutions. Beyond his research interests, Robert is passionate about helping disabled students succeed in pursuing a legal career and co-organises the UK Constitutional Law Association’s PhD and Early Career Researcher activities.

While at NYU School of Law, Robert will investigate why legislatures are distrusted and neglected in modern constitutional theory through a comparative study of the development of constitutional theory in the US and the UK. Through this research, Robert hopes to rehabilitate how legislatures are understood within contemporary constitutional thought to help defend the values of constitutional democracy. Robert looks forward to engaging with US academics, civic leaders, and citizens to learn about and understand America’s dynamic constitutional culture and its current challenges.
