Paul Joseph-Richard

Fulbright-Rutgers University-Newark Scholar Award

Dr Paul Joseph-Richard is a Chartered Coaching Psychologist and a Senior Lecturer in Human Resource Management at Ulster University Business School, Northern Ireland. Paul is a recipient of the National Teaching Fellowship (2023), the highest award for teaching excellence in the UK, awarded for his outstanding impact on student outcomes. His career spans leadership roles within the National Health Service and academia, focusing on developing leadership capabilities in individuals and teams. He is the author of the textbook Advanced Methods for Human Resource Management Research (2025), and his research on leadership and doctoral wellbeing is published in leading academic journals. During his Fulbright residency at Rutgers University-Newark, Paul will undertake a "three-strand" project: 'Engaged Learning in Urban Universities: Doctoral Wellbeing and At-Promise Student Success and Inclusive Teaching Partnerships.' His work involves research conducted alongside Rutgers scholars, sharing European experiences of inclusion to explore how "at-promise" student structures can foster success. Additionally, Paul will teach research methods and engage with the Newark community through youth empowerment coaching. Paul looks forward to sharing UK best practices in inclusive teaching while gaining international perspectives on doctoral wellbeing, ultimately bringing back strategies to reduce the disability employment gap and create more inclusive workplaces in the region.
