Mo Fahad

Fulbright Queen's University Belfast Summer Institute - Understanding Northern Ireland

Raised in Long Island, New York, Mo Fahad is an upcoming sophomore at Carnegie Mellon University, pursuing a double major in Technical Writing and Literature & Culture. His interest in civic engagement began while working in local government within the Town of Babylon, supporting veterans affairs and constituent services under his councilman. There, he assisted with database management, outreach, and day-to-day operations.

Mo is a Humanities Scholar, part of a selective interdisciplinary fellowship that emphasizes exploratory learning, community development, and intellectual engagement across the humanities. He has conducted research in digital humanities, contributing to conversations around the impact of technology on culture and human expression. Outside the classroom, he serves on the Salon team at TEDxCMU, helping to connect the greater Pittsburgh area to the Carnegie Mellon community through events and public discussions.

This summer, he will attend the Fulbright Summer Institute at Queen’s University Belfast, where he will explore identity and intergroup relations in divided societies. Through this program, he hopes to examine how storytelling and personal narratives can serve as powerful tools for reconciliation, social cohesion, and reimagining identity in post-conflict societies.
