Milos Brkljac

Fulbright Royal College of Surgeons of England Award - Mayo Clinic

Milos graduated from Manchester University Medical School in 2013, where he developed an early interest in orthopaedic surgery. He has completed three years of higher surgical training in Northwest London, with a focus on hip surgery. His ongoing commitment to research has resulted in multiple publications, a master’s degree, and a PhD, now in its second year.

Milos’s PhD focuses on fractures around hip replacements, a growing global challenge with serious patient impact. He has developed a biomechanical model to test implant failure in collaboration with the Mayo Clinic, leveraging links through Imperial College. He now aims to build on this work by exploring implant-specific fracture risks with the Orthopaedic Surgery AI Laboratory at Mayo. This project aims to develop a patient specific risk calculator which can be used to reduce fracture risk through appropriate hip stem selection.

Outside of work, Milos is an avid traveller with a passion for exploring new cultures and has visited over 40 countries. He is especially excited to experience American life in Minnesota, particularly its sports culture. On returning to the UK, he hopes to contribute to the advancement of clinical care and research by sharing the knowledge and experience gained from his time at a leading U.S. institution
