Metzin Rodriguez Cardoso

Metzin Rodriguez is a bilingual environmental justice advocate from Oregon and a 2021 graduate of Oregon State University. At OSU, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Bioresource Research with an option in Sustainable Ecosystems. Her passion for community resilience began in 2018 during a service-learning trip to Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria, where she developed an agricultural curriculum kit for 7th and 8th grade students. Professionally, Metzin has worked in federal policy with the U.S. Senate Office of Senator Merkley, advocated for international education through her Gilman ambassadorship in Washington, D.C., and supported immigrant and refugee communities with Unite Oregon. She also helped advance $10 million in Oregon legislation for Community Resilience Hubs focused on climate emergency preparedness. Through a Master of Science in International Development at University of Sheffield, Metzin will research how resilience hubs influence preparedness and community responses to risk. She looks forward to engaging in student union sustainability initiatives, volunteering, cultural exchange opportunities, and exploring the Peak District National Park while growing as a policy leader in climate resilience and emergency preparedness.
