Matthew Heilbronn

Matt Heilbronn graduated from the University of Vermont with a BS in microbiology and dual minors in wildlife biology and zoology. Matt is experienced in both field and lab biology and led an independent research project on avian malaria parasite transmission from invasive to native birds at the UVM Wildlife Pathogens Lab. After graduation, Matt worked on the phase III human trials of a novel Lyme disease vaccine as a clinical research coordinator at the UVM Vaccine Testing Center. Matt also served in the Peace Corps as a math and science teacher in Cameroon. Fascinated by pathogen spillover, zoonotic infections, and emerging infectious disease, Matt will pursue an MSc in veterinary epidemiology, where he plans apply epidemiological thinking to a One Health framework to better understand infectious disease outbreaks between animals and humans. As a Fulbrighter, Matt is excited to explore the different landscapes and cultures of the UK and hopes to volunteer at local natural history museums. In his spare time, Matt enjoys reading, cooking, hiking, and is an active beekeeper.
