Lisa Pennington

Fulbright-British Virgin Islands Scholar Award at H. Lavity Stoutt Community College

Dr. Lisa K. Pennington is an Associate Professor in the College of Education and Human Development at Governors State University in University Park, Illinois. She taught middle and high school history and World Geography in Virginia prior to earning her doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction at Virginia Tech. Her teaching and research interests include the use of children’s literature to teach social studies, pairing primary sources with children’s literature, and teaching history accurately and honestly at the elementary level. She is passionate about helping future teachers learn how to make social studies engaging, exciting, and hands-on.

Dr. Pennington had the opportunity to participate in a Fulbright-Hays Program as a classroom teacher and is excited to be a Fulbright US Scholar. While at H. Lavity Stoutt Community College, she will provide support to the teacher education program and will have the opportunity to teach, collaborate on curriculum development, and facilitate workshops for faculty and teachers on Tortola.
