Kierra Morris
Fulbright/King's College London Award
Kierra graduated with an MSc in Health Psychology from University College London in 2022 shortly after completing her undergraduate degrees at the University of Texas at Austin (UT). She has since worked at UT Dell Medical School coordinating research studies investigating memory consolidation in men and women with PTSD.
Kierra has a passion for trauma research and aims to investigate the links between psychiatric disorders and physical disease. She hopes to use her research to showcase the detrimental impact sexual and physical violence can have on an individual’s mental and physical health. In turn, she seeks to advocate for improved health policy measures for survivors of interpersonal violence.
With this Fulbright award, Kierra will earn her PhD in Psychological Medicine at KCL and investigate the relationship between depression, trauma exposure, and subsequent cancer risk. Further, she will study how UK cultural and social measures impact chronic disease risk in individuals with mental health disorders.
Kierra loves the outdoors and looks forward to hiking the British countryside. While in London, she is eager to join policy discussion groups and contribute to research dissemination efforts such as publishing with “Inspire the Mind”, an online magazine partnered with the Psychiatry Research Trust.
