Katharine Wright
Fulbright All Disciplines Scholar Award - National Defense University
Dr Katharine Wright is a Senior Lecturer in International Politics at Newcastle University, where she specialises in the United Nations Women, Peace and Security agenda, with particular expertise in how NATO engages with this framework. Her research explores the complex and sometimes surprising dynamics that emerge when defence institutions engage with what was originally intended as a feminist peace agenda.
As a Fulbright Scholar, Dr Wright will further investigate what happens when military and defence institutions take up the Women, Peace and Security agenda through a comparison of US and UK approaches. Her work will engage both scholarly and practitioner communities, with the aim of deepening transatlantic dialogue and understanding around feminist approaches to peace and security.
During her time as a Research Fellow on the women and public policy program (WAPP) at the Harvard Kennedy School, Dr Wright looks forward to exchanging ideas with colleagues across disciplines, building new collaborations and bringing fresh perspectives back to her work in the UK, ultimately with the aim of contributing to more inclusive and reflective approaches to global security.
Outside of her academic pursuits, she hopes to explore the country’s Parkrun scene, combining her passion for running with the chance to get to know new places and people!
