Kate Thompson
Fulbright Distinguished Teacher - University of Strathclyde
Katherine “Kate” Thompson has over a decade of experience teaching secondary science and holds a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction. While she did not initially plan on becoming a teacher, her adventures working with youth and schools during her time as a Peace Corps volunteer in Costa Rica prompted her to pursue this challenging but rewarding field. She currently teaches Anatomy and Physiology to juniors and seniors, and has served in various leadership roles. She has also taught double classes of up to sixty students and coached volleyball, basketball, track, and robotics.
Although Kate moved all over the United States in her early years, she has spent most of her life in Texas and now resides outside Austin with her husband, Matt, and their three children, Max, Leelu, and Sam. Kate and her family are eager to explore Scottish culture, parks, castles, and the real Diagon Alley during their time in the United Kingdom. She is elated to have the opportunity to study best practices in supporting adolescent parents as students, and hopes to use her findings to enhance the program her district offers and create resources to be used nationwide.
