Jill Marsteller

Jill Marsteller, PhD, MPP has been involved in health services research since the early 1990s at institutions such as the Urban Institute, the US National Center for Health Statistics, the University of California, Berkeley, and for the last 20 years, as a professor at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Her research interests focus on implementation, organisational science, and evaluation design and methods in health care delivery settings. In all her work she seeks to help the system provide best-evidence care for all, in primary care practices, mental health clinics, hospitals, nursing homes, home health agencies, patients' homes and in the Learning Health System. At the University of Birmingham, she will examine interactions between general practitioners (GPs) and patients in primary care in the UK with a focus on waning public trust in institutions coincident with decreased autonomy and increasing burnout and dissatisfaction among GPs. A core question is the modern state of the principal-agent relationship. The broader research agenda is to compare and contrast findings to physician-patient relationships in the US in search of solutions for both national settings. She looks forward to joining the Ramblers in the English countryside, attending the theatre and going to her first professional football match.
