Jazmine Harris
Fulbright/University College London Award
Jazmine Harris is a visual artist from Chicago's South Side who has worked for the Obama Foundation on the Museum Collections team, supporting the building of the Obama Presidential Center Museum over the last four years. A graduate of the University of Chicago's MFA program in Visual Arts and Florida A&M University's School of Business & Industry, Jazmine's artistic practice explores the intersection of language, place, and community through photography, video, and text.
As a Fulbright Scholar, she will pursue an MRes in Anthropology at University College London, investigating Material and Visual Culture studies and Social and Cultural ethnography to trace the uses of Black British English in London as it intersects with class and identity formations under late-stage capitalism. Working with research advisor, Dr. Haidy Geismar, Jazmine hopes to contribute to the Memory Workshop at UCL Urban Room.
She also looks forward to engaging with London's art scene, connecting with local Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority members, and creating discussion-based art that explores local photo archives with everyday Londoners. When not making art or engaging in anthropology research, Jazmine hopes to run with a local run club and squeeze in a couple of yoga classes.
