Jake Gehrung
Fulbright/University of Strathclyde Award
Jake Gehrung is an energy engineer from Walpole, New Hampshire, and holds a BS in Environmental Science from the University of New Hampshire. He works in Concord at Resilient Buildings Group, supporting municipalities, nonprofits, and institutions across New England in reducing energy use and carbon emissions in their buildings. With a background in environmental research and growing expertise in building science, Jake aims to become a research scientist and professor in sustainable energy systems.
As a Fulbright Scholar, Jake will pursue an MSc in Sustainable Engineering: Renewable Energy Systems and the Environment at the University of Strathclyde. His research will focus on optimizing microgrid design for underserved communities by developing machine-learning-based methods to simulate energy use in regions with limited data. He hopes to create open-source tools that support rural energy system planning and promote energy access.
With experience mentoring students and serving on professional training boards, Jake looks forward to working with organizations like Strathclyde’s Engineering Without Borders UK chapter to share knowledge and exchange international perspectives on energy systems. He is also excited to immerse himself in Scotland’s outdoor culture through the Surf and Mountaineering Club, building meaningful connections while appreciating the region’s beautiful landscapes.
