Jack Hinrichs

Fulbright University of St Andrews Summer Institute on Scotland's History: Kingdom, Nation, People

John “Jack” Hinrichs was born and raised in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He is currently a rising sophomore at Barrett, the Honors College at Arizona State University majoring in Politics and Economics. Jack is also an Eagle Scout and a two-time national speech and debate finalist.

Jack is studying to become an environmental lawyer with the National Parks Service or an NGO focused on protecting America’s natural wonders. Jack's time as a member of Scouting BSA taught him that the solitude and majesty of nature holds a special healing and imaginative power. In his career, Jack is committed to preserving that power for future generations.

While studying at the University of St Andrews, Jack hopes to indulge his passion for history while learning about how physical, social, and political environments can affect the development of a nation, and how the development of a nation can, in turn, shape those environments. The opportunity to study how history, nationhood, and the environment interact will assist Jack in his goal of helping preserve America’s protected spaces.
