Grace Gibbs
Fulbright/Northumbria University Award in Art & Design
Originally from Annapolis, Maryland, Grace graduated from Juniata College with a bachelor’s degree in studio art and environmental science. Growing up on the Chesapeake Bay, she developed a love for ecology and the arts, leading her to pursue both fields throughout her education.
Grace’s combined undergraduate studies allowed her to engage in a wide array of environmental research and artistic projects, with a particular focus on feminine experiences. She developed a deep interest in studying the relationship between gender, the environment, and traditional art during a semester abroad at the University of Leeds.
At Northumbria University, Grace is excited to continue to pursue her interdisciplinary passions. Her master’s work will examine the evolving art of Arthurian Legend through an ecofeminist lens and explore how these depictions can be applied to analyze modern environmental and gender struggles in North East England. To complement this research, Grace will also create a series of mixed media paintings inspired by Pre-Raphaelite aesthetics and techniques.
Outside of her studies, Grace enjoys hiking, running, and longboarding, and is eager to explore the northern English countryside and coast. She also looks forward to volunteering for Northumberland National Park and joining a local climbing gym.
