Florence Eckersley
Fulbright All Disciplines Postgraduate Award - Columbia University
Flo Eckersley (b.1996, London) graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 2019 with a First Class Honours (BA) in Painting and Printmaking. For the past five years, Flo has worked as a printmaking technician supporting studios like Edinburgh Printmakers and Frans Masereel Centrum, Belgium. Their artistic research practice considers non-toxic and sustainable printmaking practices.
Flo has completed artist residences at La Ceiba Grafica in Mexico and Arte Sumapaz in Columbia, supported in part by the Bet Lo foundation and Hope Scott Trust. These residences inspired them to research alternative business models and governance structures. By pursuing a Master’s in Arts Administration, Flo aims to gain practical and theoretical skills required to sustain artists and community led non-profit spaces. Their experience as a sex worker has heightened their awareness of labour rights, which will inform their research as they explore the value of different careers and the impact this has on workers.
Through their Masters, Flo aims to learn about different arts funding models while collaborating with like-minded institutions. By the end of their program Flo aims to develop an informed approach to addressing challenges faced by creative workers globally.
