Fio Lazarte

Distinguished Teacher - University of Glasgow

Fio Lazarte is a Peruvian-American bilingual educator based in Jackson, Wyoming, and a third-grade Spanish teacher at Munger Mountain Elementary. With more than a decade of classroom and leadership experience and an Instructional Leadership Certificate from Harvard, she leads her grade-level PLC, mentors new teachers. She designs culturally responsive, dual-language instruction that centers around equity, language acquisition, and family engagement.

Selected for a US-UK Commission-sponsored Teaching Research Award and hosted by the University of Glasgow, Fio will study school-level approaches that support early-career teachers, build leadership capacity, and strengthen retention in linguistically and culturally diverse settings. She plans to partner with university faculty and local schools to observe practice, pilot practical strategies, and translate findings into teacher supports that can be implemented back home.

Fio looks forward to the academic collaboration and professional learning opportunities in Glasgow, and to sharing cultural exchange with host communities. During her award period, she aims to produce actionable recommendations and ready-to-use tools to enhance induction, mentoring, and professional learning, ensuring that teachers—and the students they serve—experience greater stability and instructional continuity.

This award is sponsored by the US-UK Fulbright Commission.
