Erin Mulvey
Fulbright/University of Southampton Award
Erin recently graduated from Villanova University with a B.S. in Biochemistry and minors in Disability Studies and Medical Ethics. Growing up alongside a brother with multiple food allergies and autoimmune conditions who underwent a decade of oral immunotherapy, Erin knew from a young age the importance of translational research for developing treatments of long-term conditions. As an undergraduate, Erin researched ubiquitin-proteasome system shuttle proteins associated with neurodegenerative disease.
Erin recognized the power of international collaboration when she presented at the 2024 Protein Society Annual Symposium in Vancouver, Canada, as a Flash Talk Speaker and Poster Presenter, for which she won an Undergraduate Poster Award. As a Fulbrighter, Erin will pursue an MRes in Advanced Biological Sciences and conduct research in Dr. Emily Gwyer Findlay’s lab. Her project will analyze how immune cells interact in individuals with autoimmune conditions like MS and IBD. Erin hopes to further the understanding of autoimmune conditions to improve treatment worldwide.
Erin also served as the Human Resources Director for Fall Festival at Villanova, the largest student-run Special Olympics event in the world. Erin is excited to partner with disability advocacy organizations in the UK, like Portsmouth Down Syndrome Association and Special Olympics Great Britain.
