Ellen Buttrick

Fulbright All Disciplines Postgraduate Award - Syracuse University

Ellen Frances Buttrick MBE will be attending the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University to study a Master's in Public Administration. Ellen is passionate about removing barriers to inclusion and hopes to utilise her degree to develop effective social policy in the UK.

Leeds-based Ellen graduated from Northumbria University with a BSc (Hons) Geography in 2017. She went on to compete as a member of the Great Britain Rowing Team’s Paralympic Squad between 2018 and 2024, winning a Gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games in the PR3 Mixed Coxed Four event. Renowned for bringing a diligent work ethic and passion to any endeavor, Ellen has gained professional experience across the political and charity sectors most recently with the British Refugee Council and Love Rowing.

She was recently awarded a Masters with Merit in Gender, Policy and Inequalities from the London School of Economics. During this postgraduate degree Ellen developed an interest in Disability policy and completed an Independent Research Project on the UK Governments approach to the Disability Employment Gap.

Ellen is passionate about Physical Activity as a mechanism to shift the perception of Disability and in 2025 is conducting research as a Churchill Fellow visiting Canda, Italy and Spain to learn about inclusive practices in sport.
