Elizabeth Brubaker

Fulbright/QUB Award in 'Conflict, Security and Contested Pasts'

Elizabeth Brubaker recently graduated with a BA in Political Science and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from Emory University. Elizabeth's passion for criminal legal system reform and racial justice was crystalized during a year-long fellowship with the Southern Poverty Law Center. She has also conducted research on the progressive prosecution movement, interned with the Georgia Innocence Project and sits on the Community Advisory Board of the Fulton County Conviction Integrity Unit, bringing both research experience and community accountability to her work. While at Queen's University Belfast, Elizabeth will pursue her MA in Conflict Transformation and Social Justice. This Fulbright will give her the opportunity to draw on Northern Ireland's experience with restorative justice and post-conflict reconciliation and work to apply those lessons to the ongoing struggle for racial justice and systemic reform in the American South. She intends to volunteer with a local restorative justice organization in Belfast, recognizing that sustainable solutions emerge from community practice.
