Fulbright/Trinity Laban Award in Music & Dance

Derick McKoy, Jr. (he/him), originally from Miami, Florida, is an award-winning choreographer, arts administrator, and educator currently based in New York City. He is the Founding Artistic Director & CEO of McKoy Dance Project, a contemporary dance organization dedicated to amplifying underrepresented voices through performance, education, and community engagement. A Glorya Kaufman Scholar, McKoy is a graduate of the Ailey/Fordham BFA Program in Dance and holds a Master’s degree in Performing Arts Administration from NYU Steinhardt. As a Fulbright recipient, McKoy will pursue an MFA in Choreography at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, where his research explores identity, cultural connection, and audience engagement through contemporary dance. Professionally, his interests centre choreography, mentorship, and building equitable systems within the arts. During his time in the UK, he looks forward to engaging with the country’s rich dance culture, building international artistic collaborations, and deepening his understanding of choreographic practice and arts leadership. He hopes to use this experience to expand the global impact of his creative and community-centred work.
