Debbie Hopkins
Fulbright All Disciplines Scholar Award - Cornell University
Debbie Hopkins is an Associate Professor in Human Geography at the University of Oxford (UK) appointed between the Department for Continuing Education and the School of Geography and the Environment. She has degrees from Ōtākou Whakaihu Waka - University of Otago, King’s College London and the University of the West of England. Her research focuses on advancing socially just and climate-compatible transformations, with a particular focus on logistical mobilities, and urban geographies of sustainability. She currently leads a UKRI Economic and Social Research Council project called ‘Trucking Lives’ which seeks to understand the experiences and coordination of mobile work in road freight, and locating potential for change.
At Cornell University, Debbie will be based at the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning. She will collaborate with scholars across the university to examine the impacts and implications of automation and digitisation for workers in the road haulage sector. Debbie’s Fulbright award will allow her to collect comparative empirical material, develop new collaborations and to complete her new monograph. While in the US, Debbie is looking forward to (temporarily) trading the Premier League for college football – supporting Cornell Big Red, of course!
