Dean Legend
Fulbright University of Bristol Summer Institute
Dean is a second-year Honors Mechanical Engineering student at Austin Community College and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) and Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS).
This summer, Dean will pivot from his technical studies to research Arts, Activism, and Social Justice at the University of Bristol. He looks forward to immersing himself in the United Kingdom’s rich history of social movements and exploring how creative expression influences community reform. He is especially excited to engage with perspectives beyond engineering and bring those insights back to his education and community.
Following his return home, Dean will attend the Chautauqua Institution Summer Scholars Program in New York, US, where he was selected as one of twenty-four students nationwide to explore themes of civic engagement.
Outside of school, Dean serves as a volunteer firefighter and is working towards his Private Pilot License and SCUBA rescue certification. After completing his associate degree, he intends to transfer to the University of Central Florida to pursue a B.S. and eventual PhD in Aerospace Engineering on an astronautics track. Dean aims to become a Mission Specialist for NASA, contributing to space exploration and scientific discovery for all humanity.
