Caroline Maschke

Caroline studies neuroscience at American University in Washington, D.C. Inspired by her father’s battle with advanced stage cancer when she was 11, Caroline has made it her mission to help other children and families impacted by this devastating disease. She founded Students Against Cancer at American University to create a supportive community on campus for students affected by cancer. She also volunteers with Fight Colorectal Cancer, going to Capitol Hill each year to share her family’s experience with policymakers, emphasizing the need for colorectal cancer research funding at the federal level. Caroline played a key role in establishing Fight CRC’s “Junior Advocates” program, built to empower kids in sharing how colorectal cancer has impacted their lives. 

Outside of school and volunteering, Caroline enjoys playing beach volleyball and golf with her family in Florida or exploring D.C.’s many museums and vibrant neighbourhoods. Caroline is extremely grateful and excited to study at King’s College London this summer. She looks forward to comparing U.S. and UK policies and bringing the lessons she learns back to improve health equity in the U.S. She is eager to engage with people of diverse backgrounds and to explore London and its surrounding areas!
