Bonnie Lander Johnson

Bonnie is Fellow and Associate Professor at Downing College, Cambridge University. She teaches English Literature from the medieval to modern period. Her academic research career began with Shakespeare and Renaissance histories of science and religion. In this area she has written books on Renaissance plants, blood and chastity. She also edits critical handbooks and a book series on modern novels by the forgotten women of the Catholic Literary Revival. Bonnie is a fiction and non-fiction writer. Her first creative non-fiction book was Vanishing Landscapes (Hodder, 2025); her first novel is out in 2027. For the Fulbright, Bonnie is working on Amish horsemanship, in preparation for her next book on the rise of mechanisation in the 17th century and the communities who resisted by holding onto their horses.
