Beatrice Kahn

Fulbright/Royal Holloway, University of London Award

Beatrice Kahn is a proud alumna of Oregon’s public schools. She graduated summa cum laude from the University of Oregon Clark Honors College in June 2026 with a double major in History and English. At UO, she spent three years advancing higher education opportunities in Oregon’s female prison and maximum security prison through the University of Oregon Prison Education Program. Beatrice’s thesis analysed Project NewGate, America’s first federally funded prison education initiative, which was piloted in Oregon from 1967-1974. 

Beatrice's academic and professional work in Oregon’s criminal justice system shaped her desire to study the UK’s prison programming and re-entry initiatives. Additionally, her experiences with federal, state, and local criminal justice components motivates her pursuit of an MSc from Royal Holloway, University of London’s Department of Law and Criminology. As a Fulbright Scholar, she is excited to develop connections with His Majesty’s Prison Service and join the Howard League for Penal Reform. Beatrice plans to continue her engagement with the fitness community as a mat Pilates instructor; she hopes to incorporate UK drill music in her Pilates classes. Beatrice eagerly anticipates expanding her tea consumption, joining a run club, completing modernist author Jean Rhys’ oeuvre, and frequenting the Victoria and Albert Museum.
