Avery Rose Nolan

Fulbright/Lancaster University Award in Faculty of Science and Technology

Avery Rose graduated from Brandeis University with a BSc in Computer Science and Environmental Studies. Through Lancaster University’s MSc in Conservation and Biodiversity she will prepare for a career in applying modern technologies to conservation initiatives. As a Doris Duke Conservation Scholar at the University of California, Santa Cruz, Avery Rose discovered her passion for biodiversity conservation by conducting field research in biomes ranging from woodlands to kelp forests. She explored technological applications in conservation through her NOAA Hollings internship with the Northeast Fisheries Science Center, where she used passive acoustic technologies to study sperm whale presence prior to the construction of a proposed offshore wind energy farm. Since graduating, she has continued to use her computational skills for urban sustainability by interning with the City of Cambridge, and now works as a GIS Technician for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. In her free time, Avery Rose is a member of Life Drawing Boston, and previously taught puppet-making workshops and was a stagehand for university theatre performances. She hopes to continue finding community through creation during her time in the UK.
