Fulbright alumnus Dr Arun Sood discusses the legacy of Robert Burns in nineteenth-century America, exploring links between the Scottish poet's works and African-American protest songs during the Civil War.

Addressing Burns in relation to contested histories, conflicted memories, and problematic colonial legacies, Dr Sood's discussion with US-UK Fulbright grantees and alumni, moderated by Maria Balinska (Executive Director, US-UK Fulbright Commission), explored the importance of reconsidering transatlantic history to inform our understanding of the current discourse and events around the Black Lives Matter movement.
