Across the Pond webinar: Journeys into the Wild
Join our webinar series called "Across the Pond", bringing together two Fulbright Scholars from either side of the Atlantic to discuss the intersection of their interests. Our transatlantic conversations address global challenges of all natures, and are a celebration of the civic engagement at the heart of the Commission's work.
Journeys into the Wild: Navigating National Parks will explore national parks in the UK and the US. It will draw on the speakers' personal experiences of National Parks in each country, highlighting aspects of UK and US national parks, as well as tips and tricks for navigating them.
Date: Tuesday 3 August
Time: 5:00 PM (UK time)
Lanta Davis is a literature professor who perhaps read too many books romanticising the vagabond wanderer. She and her husband enjoy roaming the country in the summer in their conversion van and hope to one day visit all the US national parks. During her Fulbright at Queen’s University Belfast researching Irish Literature, she hopes to apply that wandering spirit to the beautiful green hills and rugged coastline of Northern Ireland.
Rebecca Charlton is a psychologist studying what happens as we age. She’s from a coastal town and loves being by the sea. Rebecca enjoys walking (especially in national parks) as long as there’s a view or something interesting to look at. She’s hoping to visit some new US national parks while on her Fulbright visit to George Washington University in Washington DC in the autumn.
Across the Pond is a new initiative from the US-UK Fulbright Commission presenting transatlantic conversations between scholars, covering a wide range of topics that showcase the range of interests of this year’s cohort of Fulbright Scholars. Keep an eye out for future events in the series running through the summer and early autumn.
