Across the Pond webinar: Challenging Cancer
Join our webinar series called "Across the Pond", bringing together two Fulbright Scholars from either side of the Atlantic to discuss the intersection of their interests. Our transatlantic conversations address global challenges of all natures, and are a celebration of the civic engagement at the heart of the Commission's work.
Challenging Cancer: data, diagnostics and developments in healthcare will shed light on on-going efforts to tackle cancer in healthcare today.
Public Health has been dominated over the last 18 months by the Covid-19 pandemic. Cancer, though, continues to affect numerous lives around the world even as public health attention has been directed elsewhere.
Diagnosis remains crucial to cancer treatment. In this conversation, Niyati Lobo and Larry Kessler draw on their respective experience in cancer diagnostics to explore the challenges and developments within cancer diagnostics. They will explore how data is used to study cancer and reflect on how their own work intersects with wider developments in the field.
Date: Tuesday 31 August
Time: 5:00 PM (UK time)
Larry Kessler is Professor in the Department of Health Services in the School of Public Health, University of Washington. He has over 40 years of experience in health services research and his work in cancer surveillance at the National Cancer Institute of NIH substantially changed the way in which the US performs cancer surveillance.
Niyati Lobo is a final year urology trainee with an interest in robotic surgery and bladder cancer.
Across the Pond is a new initiative from the US-UK Fulbright Commission presenting transatlantic conversations between scholars, covering a wide range of topics that showcase the range of interests of this year’s cohort of Fulbright Scholars. Keep an eye out for future events in the series running through the summer and early autumn.
