UK families relocating to the US may be interested in enrolling their children in a British school or a school offering an IB programme, especially if they plan to only be in the US for part of the child's studies. Because UK schools also offer IB programmes, it would be an easier transition back to the UK.
The International Baccalaureate (IB) programme is offered and highly-regarded in both the US and the UK. Founded in the 1960s, the IB Organisation grew out of international schools' efforts to establish a common curriculum and fulfilling university entrance requirements for geographically mobile students. The IB Diploma programme is a rigorous pre-university course of study for students aged 16 to 18 and is accepted by various national systems of higher education. The IB programme also offers a Primary Years Programme (PYP) and a Middle Years Programme (MYP) for younger students aged 3 to 15.
For further information, including a current list of participating schools in the US and UK, contact the IB Organisation directly.
