Queen's University Belfast Creative Writing

The Fulbright Queen's University Belfast Award in Creative Writing covers a six-month appointment to write, lecture and deliver public readings of one's own work.

The Scholar will assist in teaching one undergraduate creative writing class, as well as conduct one graduate workshop in the Scholar's field of expertise and interest. Public readings of published work and works-in-progress will be sponsored by the Seamus Heaney Centre and the School of English.

The appointment will start in January 2026.

Who is this award for?

Early, mid and late career US academics and creative practitioners

Grant amount

£3,000 per month

This funding is intended as a contribution towards US-UK travel, institutional fees, accommodation, and general maintenance costs while in the UK.

Faculty accommodation may be available for free or for a reasonable rental rate; candidates should inquire well in advance of arrival.

Relocation Allowance 

$1500 stipend 

Dependent Benefits 

Scholars accompanied by eligible dependents for the full duration of the programme may receive a one-time dependent allowance of $1800 for one dependent or $2500 for two or more dependents. This will be calculated on a pro-rata basis for any Scholars on a grant for less than 6 months.
