US Fulbright Scholars and Distinguished Chairs already in an EU country on a Fulbright Award can apply for funding to visit a UK higher education or research institution through the Inter-Country Lecturing Programme (ILP).

US Fulbright Scholars are encouraged to take advantage of the Inter-Country Travel Grant to foster connections with fellow scholars at institutions in the UK

Grant support is provided for shot visits (up to one week) that allow the Scholar to deliver a lecture either as part of a larger conference or as a one-off lecture/seminar and to meet with faculty to discuss future research collaborations.

The EU Inter-Country Lecture must take place during the US Scholar’s Fulbright Grant Period in an EU country.

Grant amount

  • Up to £250

This is to support travel only, covering the visiting scholar's airfare from their EU host country to the destination city in the UK, using the most economical fare.

Travel costs will be reimbursed to the visiting Scholar directly after the visit and against travel tickets and receipts, and a brief report.

How to apply

Applications for the ILP are reviewed by the US-UK Fulbright Commission on a rolling basis until all grants available are allocated for the academic year.

US Fulbright Scholars wishing to come to the UK on the ILP should contact the US-UK Fulbright Commission with details of the university they wish to visit and the person there that they are in contact with.

For more information on coming to the UK on the ILP, please contact Ana Guerra Pereira, Programme Manager via ana@fulbright.org.uk

For Fulbright Scholars based in the UK who wish to visit another country on the ILP, please be aware that each EU Fulbright Commission will have slightly different requirements, grant benefits and application procedures. For instance, most EU Commissions require the host university to make the formal application rather than the Scholar.

The Finish Fulbright Centre (Commission) maintains an updated list of the Current US Fulbright Scholars in eligible countries.
