Her honours thesis examined whether the processing of the structures of language and music are governed by similar cognitive mechanisms. This research earned her an FSU Honors Thesis Award and the prestigious Marion Jewel Hay Award. While at FSU, Dana played first-chair flute in the University Philharmonia Orchestra and the Symphonic Band, marched in the FSU Marching Chiefs, and performed in the FSU African Drum and Dance ensemble. Dana spent the summer of 2012 in Montreal, performing research supported by an NSERC grant to examine structural and functional differences among the brains of musicians, non-musicians, and dancers. As a Fulbright Scholar, Dana will pursue an MSc in Cognitive Neuroscience from University College London and conduct research on the neural basis of language processing.
