Alexander Coburn was born in Boston, MA, where his studio and art history courses at Roxbury Latin sparked an early interest in architectural history and design. Alex went on to graduate magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Amherst College, where he studied Architecture and Environmental Studies and wrote a senior thesis documenting the social and educational impact of recent structural renovations to Amherst’s historic fraternity houses. While at Amherst, he was a member of the varsity baseball, soccer, and club rugby teams, a four-year a cappella singer, a columnist for the student newspaper, and a co-reviver of the Delta Upsilon fraternity. Since graduating, he has helped launch a startup non-profit called African School for Excellence that is building a network of low-cost high schools throughout Africa. Alex has previously worked in southern France, in Togo, and in rural Indiana as a staff member of Barack Obama’s first presidential election campaign. As a Fulbright Scholar, Alex will pursue a Master of Philosophy in Environmental Design in Architecture at the University of Cambridge. He plans to play lots of “football” and rugby and looks forward to exploring England's infinite architectural treasures.
