Director of Awards (maternity cover)

We are seeking a Director of our Fulbright Awards programme to join our small, but dynamic and highly motivated team to cover the maternity leave of the current postholder, starting mid July.  


A member of the senior management team, you will lead and manage all aspects of the Fulbright Awards programme and support the Executive Director in the delivery of the Commission’s strategic objectives.  You will need to maintain strong relationships with all our award partners and lead the renewal of agreements on an annual basis,  supported by a team of Programme Managers for whom you have line management responsibility.

You will have experience of managing a team of people in a challenging and demanding environment and able to demonstrate an understanding of budget management and accountability.  You should possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, excellent time management and be able to demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues. A strong interest and experience in international education or cultural exchange will be needed.

The US-UK Fulbright Commission is a not-for-profit organisation funded by both governments to promote educational exchange between the US and the UK. The Commission offers prestigious Fulbright awards for postgraduate study and academic research in the US and the UK, as well as a number of other programmes and services for people interested in studying in the US.

Since the UK programme began 70 years ago, more than 27,000 people have been given a Fulbright award through the Commission, and today the programme continues to foster mutual understanding and people-to-people connections. In the 21st century, Fulbrighters address critical priorities while building relationships, knowledge, and leadership in support of the long-term interests of the US and the UK. The programme prepares participants to address the major global challenges of our time, from energy sustainability and economic development to public health and food security.

The role is being offered on a maternity cover basis for up to 12 months, or the early return of the post holder (whichever is the sooner).

Location: Central London

Salary: circa £40,000 per annum
